DESCRIPTION: An absolutely superb antique Victorian solid 14k gold and base metal cameo brooch. The cameo is genuine hand carved shell and depicts a couple under a tree. The total item weight is approx. 7.93g and the size dimensions are in the later photos. To confirm, the outer housing and flowers sections are solid 14k gold. The 14k gold has been reinforced with a thicker inner border on the rear, this is made of a gold tone base metal. The flowers have some old lead repairs on them. Not all the metal on this item is 14k gold, there are areas of solid 14k gold and areas of base metal reinforcing the cameo. As to be expected with the items age and type, it isn't stamped/hallmarked, the gold sections tests for solid 14k gold. The clasp has been replaced on the item at some point in its life. From what I can tell, the border of this cameo has been repaired, the clasp has been replaced, the leaf decoration has been lead solder and the frame has been reinforced with base metal, likely because the frame was damaged at some point.
