DESCRIPTION: A lovely antique Victorian genuine shell cameo brooch, mounted in a solid 9ct 375 gold frame. The cameo itself has good detail. The item weighs approx. 3.79g and the size dimensions are in the later photos. To confirm, the outer border of the frame is solid 9ct gold, the inner frame (the bit that touches the cameo) is made from gold tone base metal. It was common that cameos were made this way during the Victorian era, this is because the base metal is stronger than 9ct gold, therefore it was used to hold the cameo into place. As to be expected with the items age, it isn't stamped/hallmarked but tests as explained above. There are some gaps between the cameo and the base metal border (see pictures) but the cameo is stable and secure.
