DESCRIPTION: A highly unusual and rare antique Mid Victorian shell cameo brooch, beautifully carved with great detail and relief. It depicts a male figure who has a wort on the inside of their nose (see picture 3). I can't figure out who it's meant to be, I'm sure it will be a person of importance (if you know, please message me). The brooch is large in size and the cameo itself is genuine shell, likely carved in Naples/Pompeii area. It's mounted in a very thick pinchbeck style border (looks like solid gold), with a twisted rope style effect. The cameo itself does have some age lines, as to be expected with age. These aren't cracks, they are age fractures which have happened due to the cameo drying out over many years. I use mineral oil on my cameos to stop this from happening over time. The mounted has some lead repairs on it, see picture/video. It weighs approx. 24.03g and the size dimensions are in the later photos.
