DESCRIPTION: A large genuine antique Victorian vulcanite locket. The overall condition is good, with no major external cracks or chips. It opens/closes well. The inside rim has some chips to it and the bail has been glued. Vulcanite (or ebonite as it's sometimes called) is an antique hard rubber, it was made by vulcanising rubber for long period of time which in turn makes it very hard. The material was used in jewellery and to simulate Whitby Jet in a lot of circumstances. It weighs approx. 12.52g and the size dimensions are in the later photos. PLEASE NOTE: The item has a chemical odour when smelt up close, due to the vulcanite breaking down over time.
